Interview with Adaptiveblue

Alex Iskold is the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of adaptiveblue. He frequently writes articles for Web 2.0 Journal, Ajax World magazine, and Read / Write Web. Visit his blog here.
What is AdaptiveBlue and what advantages does it have over other social networking services?
adaptiveblue was founded with a mission to deliver smart browsing and personalization technologies. The blueorganizer, our first product, is a Firefox extension for collecting everyday objects like movies, wines and cars online. The main focus of the blueorganizer is semantics. For each type of object the blueorganizer creates a bluemark - semantically rich bookmark. For a movie for example, bluemark captures the poster, release year, director and actors. For a wine, the bluemark contains the grape information, the winery, the year and points. Capturing semantics is what differentiates the blueorganizer from other similar products. We believe that semantics facilitates productivity and personalization.
What are your plans for the company in addition to offering a Firefox extension?
At large, we are a player in the personalization and attention space. You can learn more about our thinking and approach to attention from my blog. In a nutshell, we believe that attention information captured in bluemarks is critical for building useful personalization technologies. Among others, technologies include Personalized recommendations and personalized news. We have plans to collaborate with other companies as well as build some of our own pieces of the personalization and attention ecosystem. At this point, we have no plans to build similar extension for Internet Explorer.
What is your business model?
I can discuss freely a few revenues streams. First one is affiliate revenue. We have created infrastructure that allows us to plugin into numerous affiliates programs. We also have plans to charge sites for the blueorganizer integrations and out of the box presence in the organizer. Beyond that I can't give you much details, but I can tell you that it is related to personalization.

describe how your software would
process my web sites please ?

Hi Lawrence,
Is this question for Alex Iskold about blueorganizer?
There are two ways in which blueorganizer would process your site.
First there is generic ability to help users lookup objects like movies, books and wine, by highlighting the title. This looks up things using techniques like Amazon API.
The second way is we have explicit parsers for many site (see http://www.adaptiveblue.com/supported_sites.html)
We are going to open up these parsers as API soon so people will be able to build parser for different pages.
You can learn more about bluemarks here: http://www.adaptiveblue.com/bluemark.html
Hope this helps,
Alex
Thanks for the response Alex.
