Slideroll is a Slide-like Slideshow Service
Slideroll describes itself on its homepage by saying,
Slideroll is a photo slideshow maker that you can use to create cool slide shows with your digital pictures. Upload your photos to Slideroll and publish slide shows on the Internet, make MySpace slideshows, and e-mail them to friends.
Sounds good, but isn't that exactly what Paypal co-founder Max Levchin's Slide.com does? I find it interesting that this is pretty much the same service with an extra four letters added to the end of the domain name.
Compared to Slide, however, Slideroll seems insignificant and feels more like a personal pet project than a web service company. Instead of Slideroll.com or a company name, the copyright at the bottom of each page is attributed to Geoffrey P. Gaudreault. Hopefully Geoffrey will dream up a few useful and unique features for Slideroll that distinguish the service from Slide. Without doing so, I don't know how it could stand a chance.
Aside from its lack of originality, the service actually seems pretty well designed and put together. If Geoffrey produced this service single handedly to the point it is now, then kudos to him. That would be very impressive.
Geoff Gaudreault has informed me that Slideroll was launched in October 2004, a year before Slide. My apologies. Congratulations to him for putting together a service like this single handedly.

Comments
Michael,
Slideroll.com was launched in October 2004, a full year before Slide.com. When I launched Slideroll, there was nothing out there like it.
So, you could actually say that Slide is just like Slideroll with four less letters.
Just to set the record straight, I was there first with the ideas. Like you said, I'm only one person, so it's hard to compete with the big companies.
Thanks, and best regards,
Geoff
Thanks for the clarification Geoff. Best of luck to your company!
