Squirl Helps Collectors Organize and Socialize

Squirl is a privately-held company based in Los Angeles and Portland that allows collectors to compile a digital list of the items in their collection. Books, movies, and CDs can be imported from Amazon, and users can track the collections of other members via RSS feeds.

Squirl is a new way to organize and share your books, records, movies, comic books, stamps, coins, or practically anything else, and meet other collectors who are as passionate as you.

The big question is, is there a large enough audience for a service like this? The service looks solid and well designed, but the .info domain name extension is going to hurt them. The company should have chosen a name that would have enabled them to register the .com extension. The service looks very nice and useful for the right people, but there might not be enough of the right people to make this service get anywhere in terms of traffic and popularity.

You are right ,the site owners made a big mistake in not choosing a URL with.com.
On the other , speaking as a very satisfied early adopter the site will prosper because it fills a need and does it well.

Glad to know you're enjoying the service. I'm sure there's a lot of happy users despite the domain name. I think domain name will hinder growth a little bit, but not user retention.
