YouTube and Warner Music Group (WMG) announced today announced a partnership in distributing music videos of artists under WMG. The press release states that,

WMG will have the opportunity to authorize the use of its content by the YouTube community by taking advantage of YouTube's advanced content identification and royalty reporting system, set for release by the end of the year.

Warner will receive a portion of advertising revenue generated from its music videos, and may have also taken an equity stake in YouTube.

A look at Wikipedia's article on WMG artists reveals the significance of this development. Arists ranging from Björk to Eric Clapton will soon have music videos legally distributed on YouTube.
