Kevin Rose is the founder and Chief Architect of Digg. Prior to Digg, he co-hosted TechTV show The Screen Savers until May 2005. He is also the founder of Revision3, a company that produces technology related videos. Visit the company blog here.

What are the greatest challenges you've faced in starting Digg and developing it to where it is today?

It wasn’t any type of business when we conceived it. It was just an experiment that took off – we just thought it was an interesting project to see if this concept would work, so more then anything I would have to say that we were lucky to be the first ones out of the gate to have this type of content and approach, and there were others out there that were attempting similar things, but others didn’t come together like Digg did, so the company just happened…people started ‘Digging’, and then shared it with their friends, and it just took off. I suppose from this perspective I don’t think about barriers to entry because we hadn’t really intended to start a company per se when we started this project.

What is life like in the Digg offices?

There are 16 employees. 3 are PHP developers, and there are a bunch of other people that support that development effort. Digg.com [employees] are my friends, and we came together to realize my vision, so for that, I’m extremely grateful. So, not only is Digg.com a great place to be, but the work that we do serves my community, so it’s quite an amazing opportunity that we’ve created for ourselves. Digg’s success is a real testament to what can happen if you believe in yourself and follow your dreams.

Besides traffic, what do you consider Digg's strongest advantage over other social news services?

Digg’s success lies in the democratic collaboration of its users. We are very much in tune with the community, listening to their feedback, and providing them with the tools that will continue to bring them back to the site.
