Chase Norlin is the founder and CEO of Pixsy Corporation He created Sony's first online photo sharing service and was a Strategy Consultant to Boeing where he launched Boeing's online photo and video licensing division. Mr. Norlin received his BA from UC Berkeley and MA from the University of Chicago. Visit his blog here.

What is Pixsy, what are some facts and figures about the company, and how did it get started?

Pixsy is a media search portal and media search syndication platform, building the largest photo and video index on the web (think “visual Google”). Pixsy acts as a meta-aggregator of photo and video content in the form of thumbnail images. These images are then indexed and made searchable and browseable for users.

PixsyPower is a media search platform that enables any website or application to run their own branded image and video search engine. PixsyPower provides medium and large publishers with unique search technology, a hosted service, engaging content, and advertising monetization. Pixsy provides this service to publishers on a 50/50 ad revenue share or monthly license fee. Pixsy is currently developing a mass-market solution for the blogger/myspace market that automates the creation of photo and video search engines.

Pixsy first started in July, 2005 and is now a team of 11 people, most of whom are former ex-Microsoft engineers.

Time magazine recently named Pixsy one of their "Top 50 Coolest Websites of 2006". What is it about Pixsy that makes it stand out from its competitors, and how do you plan on expanding Pixsy?

We are differentiated from our competitors in that we're focused entirely on distribution, enabling any website to run a photo and video search engine with our technology. Our business goal is to be the largest photo and video search index on the web, and, to have a strong distribution platform.

We're focused mainly on powering media search for our partners. However, today pixsy.com is #29,000 on Alexa traffic rankings, which means we have a growing portal business that you'll see improve alot in the near future.

Is there any significance behind your logo? What exactly is it? How did you choose it?

The logo was designed by my wife and she's a brilliant illustrator. The purpose was to have fun with the logo and make it very memorable, which I believe we achieved. Most image/video search engines on the web have very stale branding, no voice, and they don't convey a sense of fun and entertainment. Pixsy is about "discovery and entertainment" and we wanted that communicated in our brand and logo.
