Neighborhood Information with Neighboroo

Neighboroo combines of neighborhood statistics and Google maps to provide heat maps of the United States based on various datasets. There are quite a few color coded ways of viewing the country, including lifestyle, politics, crime, elementary school rank, home price, household income, cost of living, population density, percentages of a specific ethnicity, and more.

You can also search for the information on specific cities. The service tells me that San Francisco is a "Democrat Stronghold" with 82% of the population being Democrat and 14% being Republican. The median home price there is reported to be $882,800, while the average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is $1,980.

Neighboroo plans on adding new characteristics and deeper zooming. The service reminds me of Zillow, except it provides neighborhood information instead of home valuations. I'm sure many people will find this service useful for various reasons. They could, however, learn a little from Zillow in terms of web design.

I would recommend not embossing your logo (solid and flat color). The color is okay, but embossing it makes it look slightly outdated.

As for UI, I think you should use larger fonts and softer design. Zillow does a good job with theirs, so maybe study that.

I wouldn't necessarily model yourself after zillow, they don't even support Safari...
