Marc Pomerleau is the Co-Founder and CMO of Green WiFi: Solar Powered Internet Access for Humanity.
He is also the VP of Sales at Green WiFi. For a one page summary of their noble Green WiFi project, view here.

How did Green WiFi get started?

I left Sun in June of 2006, looking for more of a social mission than was possible in a traditional corporate environment, and so I joined a colleague to start Green WiFi where I had an opportunity to create meaning rather than search for it.

What is the goal of Green Wifi?

We believe that access to the internet needs to be everywhere not just in the places that have power. To accomplish this power-shortage dilemma and particularly prevalent in third-world countries, we need to determine how alternative energy sources can be used to create an efficient, low cost solution that can circumvent the power-shortage dilemma.

What are some of the biggest challenges Green WiFi is facing?

Seeking funding for a business that has a business model with a return on investment measured not only in dollars but rather on how a company can impact lives; a double bottom-line business.

Could you tell us a bit about the technology behind Green Wifi?

Our secret sauce the intelligent charge control and software interfaces with any Linux-based, off the shelf router.

What do you see as the current state of affairs of entrepreneurship here in Silicon Valley?

Balance of power and innovation is shifting. Outsourcing is the leading factor for this shift as more and more jobs shift to China and India due to lower hiring costs. The source of innovation in Silicon Valley will change as will intellectual property rights, business models, and branding.
