WikiYou - Where Celebrities Aren't People

buttons.jpg I was paying a visit today to newly-launched "biography wiki" WikiYou when I noticed something that made me grin:

To browse through the "unauthorized biographies", you are presented with two choices: "People" or "Celebs". Upon seeing this, I let out a sigh of relief, thankful that I'm categorized as a "person"... at least on WikiYou.

When you're working on a startup web service, naming things is something you're forced to do often as you develop the service and expand. It is important to choose the right words for things to avoid confusing your users.

Dividing their biographies into "People" and "Celebs" might seem funny at first glance, but it might have been the best thing they could come up with. Other choices would have been much more humorous. (Common Folk, Normal People, Not Famous People, Peons, Ordinary People).

Tread carefully when choosing your words.
