Forward Gmail Emails to Your Cell Phone as Text Messages
My brother’s Samsung Gravity allows him to access his Gmail account without a data plan, while my T-Mobile G1 doesn’t. Pretty strange.
Anyhow, I was trying to figure out a way to have my new emails forwarded to me as text messages today. It’s actually surprisingly easy.
First, go to your Gmail and create a new email filter (Settings->Filters->Create a new filter).
Choose what emails you would like forwarded as texts, or add the wildcard symbol (*) to the From field if you want all incoming emails forwarded.
In the next step, choose Forward it to:, and for the email address, put your SMS email address. If you’re not sure what your SMS email address is, find your provider in the list below:
T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
Replace phonenumber with your 10 digit phone number.
Finally, click Create Filter, and you’re done! Your emails should start being forwarded to your text message inbox.
