Quick Tip for Wordpress Spammers

If you run a blog, you’ve probably gotten quite a few automated spam comments in your posts, with links leading to fake wordpress blogs filled with ads.

Most of the time these blogs are pretty obviously automated and useless. However, sometimes the spammers do a pretty good job of making the blogs seem legitimate.

One funny thing I’ve found after visiting and deleting numerous comments from such “blogs” is that they never seem to have legitimate looking “About” pages. Spam blogs mostly always have “About” pages that contain the default Wordpress message:

This is an example of a WordPress page, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can create as many pages like this one or sub-pages as you like and manage all of your content inside of WordPress.

This is a pretty ridiculously easy way to check to see whether that latest comment was left by a spammer. If you’re a spammer, why not take the extra 30 seconds to make your fake blog seem a little more real?
